Scroll down on the page to this discussion of the CONOP process in Afghanistan.

I wouldn't normally go all Assange-ish and post such a highly classified video, but there is a higher good here -- we all can learn from studying this discussion.

Hitler

Had something against micro-management? :-) I imagine that he had little time for his military when they balked at re-militarising the Rhineland, wet themselves at the Anschluss and crapped themselves when Adolf wanted Czechoslovakia...... And it is also true that after the war there were to be found generals aplenty sufficiently arrogant to hint that Germany could have won if Der Alte hadn't screwed things up.

And the lesson to be drawn is... ?

Dude

Are you not familiar with the "new Downfall subtitles" video meme?

Of course Hitler was a micromanager who, depending on which historian you ask, either partially or totally screwed up his generals' plans on the Eastern front especially. So no, the point of the video is not, literally, that Hitler was anti-micromanagement. The video is merely an entertaining format for conveying one's grievances.

I was a straight-leg Marine and had many of the same gripes in OIF 5 years ago.

Best line: "Don't cry. Just get pregnant and they will send you home."

The most accurate "documentary film" about the leadership

In both OEF and OIF I have seen to date.

Der Untergang

No, I can't say that I am familiar with this sub-titling phenomenon. That said, there are many things of which I know nothing whatsoever.

One wonders, when do we get to see mention of the stab in the back and which character is going to say it?

Yes, I did notice the don't cry, get pregnant part.

national secrets

the cat's out of the bag now. the taliban just have to make sure ISAF is so busy drafting CONOPS that the war machine grinds to a halt. this video is tantamount to revealing where the soft spots are on an MRAP methinks.

I used to joke about AQ/JAM being saddled with admin

micromanagement bullshit::

"the CONOP for the martyrdom operation has gotten kicked back down again-the sheikh says the risk assessment is too high and we need to do more mitigation measures."

"Did you put the suicide belt safety brief on there?"

The war is a contest for who can be dumber at any given time-the enemy's handicap is biological, ours is organizational.

Love it

The movie is certainly a great.

My father and his brothers all learned to speak English as their second language, and they used to tell my brothers and I, as we were growing up, what a lunatic Hitler was; all you had to do was listen to his lectures. So, when I saw Downfall, I thought of what they told us.

This use of the film reverses the apropo, but it drives home the point.

I know it's off topic, but, my uncle was an Army platoon sergeant in Europe. His command used him to call out to the civilians in Germany that the Americans would not rape and would treat the people and POWs with respect. He would always call out to the older women in the German cities by calling them "mother." He would address them, knowing that everyone would hear what he was saying through the loud speaker.

Laughed until I did'nt

My first reaction to the clip was to laugh so hard my ribs hurt-yep thats how big human institutions work and worker/soldier cynicism about the "bosses" is grounded in hard facts of the job. Then I remembered that one of mine and a number of his friends are in these units-not laughing now and more worried.
