Rebecca appears to be on strike, so Tom's war dog of the week (until we can get Rebecca to re-surface) is a dog in Bamiyan, one of my favorite towns in Afghanistan. When I ran my junior class trip there in 1970 we picnicked atop the flat head of one of the Buddha statues.
I really wish that the GO's would change Gen Order 1
The Dogs in Iraq and Afghanistan are such a morale boost that a lot of Officer turn a blind eye but a lot of them also have ordered the dogs put down or kicked out of the area. They should instead make it easier for the dogs to get taken care of and even get taken home, wish they would change the rules a bit. Heck, we had cats in Africa that were literally keeping the area clean of pests, they killed EVERYTHING, even small Mambas. The cats did have a few problems though, they had a terrible habit of bringing them back as gifts or half dead to train their kittens though and we set up food for them right by out entrance to the kitchen....seeing a half dead Green Mamba or Thompson did liven things up a notch though as you went to go eat.
