Best Defense chief awards correspondent and hype man

Tom was unable to post today because of some rare technical difficulties, but in his absence we got some great news here at FP world headquarters.  The Best Defense has won the 2010 Digitial National Magazine award for best blog!

The photo on the left, taken just moments ago, shows the "Ellie" en route back to Washington in the victorious grip of Executive Editor Susan Glasser.

Congratulations to Tom as well as the incredible community of readers who've helped make this blog a must-read.

Credit Goes Where Credit's Owed

Congratulations to Tom Ricks, a fine journalist who applied skills learned in that trade to the blogosphere. His blog is a resource, and frequently an inspiration.

I did have a question about that award. It looks as if Susan Glasser is taking it to Washington aboard an Amtrak train. I'm not sure she'd get it through security at an airport. The thing looks like a weapon.

Couldn't live without it!

I can still recall my excitement and relief when, amid the welter of voices screaming about Iraq ca. 2004 or so, I finally figured out Ricks was the man.

This blog just keeps the joy alive.

Thanks for it, and congrats.

BD is my favorite - smart,

BD is my favorite - smart, conversational, extremely well-informed, and with the smartest commenters around.

Many thanks Tom, for providing this space for all of us to argue, agree (occasionally) and learn. I learn something cool and interesting every time I log on here - from Tom, one of his collaborators, or a commenter.

Thanks people!

thanks to you and those who comment

This is such a well-deserved award. I hope you're not really experiencing technical difficulties, but out bicycling or kayaking (naaaaaaaaah, too early in DC for that) somewhere beautiful!

Thomas E. Ricks covered the U.S. military for the Washington Post from 2000 through 2008.
