This one is fresh from the library of the U.S. Army War College. The list struck me as a bit haphazard --for example, why my article from Army magazine, but not the book from which that article was excerpted? -- but overall my attitude is, the more of these lists, the better.

Thanks

As a current high school student, thank you for posting these resources. The list seems very extensive into different areas.

A good list, but where's Thompson?

Thanks for posting this list Tom, especially as it lists student papers one would not otherwise easily be aware of. One observation is that I couldn't see Robert Thompson's "Defeating Communist Insurgency: Experiences from Malaya and Vietnam" on that list, which I think is a big miss. Of the 60's counter insurgency writers it seems the veneration and accolades seem to have gone to Galulu, at least in the states, theres nothing wrong with that, its a very good treatise. It just seems that Thompson's seminal book has been left behind, maybe because of the title, but I believe its just as good intellectually and much easier and more interesting to read.

I note again that these books

I note again that these books appear useful, but the closest it seems to get to get to any real suggestions for civilians is two mentions of Patrick M Cronan and Hans Binnendijk. Additionally there were only three focusing on police, with two of them short articles. Regardless of the ideas of civil-military relations and counterinsurgency it still sounds very military focused to me.
