Before you go on the TV and start spouting, it is good to know who you're talking to. For a 43-second education in this subject, watch this PoW vs JAG smackdown. As a CNAS friend said, the scorch marks are visible. I just love this video, especially the wagging finger. You have to love the American enlisted soldier, and his (or her) sense of the role that REMFs play. It reminds me also of something I once read, that in the Marines, a corporal in the infantry may be outranked by a captain in a support branch, but he possesses more moral authority.

Yeah, I would counsel my fellow pogue to do a bit of research before you make an ass of yourself on national TV.
While he probably should have done some research earlier, listening to King, Dr Phil and Ms. Johnson is making me gag (though Ms. Johnson less so than the other two - her point about him being an officer and educated being a weak argument in favor of ideological motivations is true). But I am amazed watching this media offensive to prove that this was all the result of "an Army on the brink."
Um, wasn't Spec Johnson one of the feckless transport troops who took a wrong turn, got themselves captured, and risked the lives of the real soldiers who then had to go in and rescue them?
Really, to be 'the first female prisoner of war of African descent in the military history of the United States' may be worth celebrating on Wikipedia, but it scarcely qualifies her to render judgment on Major Hasan (or JAG, for that matter).

What most rifleman aren't taught is that shooting up or down slope, one needs to aim lower as the strike of the bullet impacts high. Therefore, there's generally a lot of noise and ammunition fired, but few hits for the amount of ammo expended.
The same with this ridiculous debate - lots of noise and shooting-off at the mouth, but nothing on target. :|
I hate the perception that if you served in some particular MOS or role or experienced something then that makes you an expert on everything under the sun related to the Army or war. I don’t know what was discussed outside of this 0:43 video, but what Johnson said in that 0:43 was stupid. When the lawyer said that talk of PTSD made no sense because the shooter had not even been to combat (which is absolutely correct), her response was to play the veteran-victim card and declare that you don’t know what it’s like. What does that have to do with the guy’s point that PTSD is irrelevant? And why is this woman on the air as a talking head for this issue? Is she a psychiatrist? Is she a counselor? Is she an investigator? And even if she is any of those things, is she significantly more qualified than most others? Same questions for the lawyer. Why are these two clowns looked to for analysis on the issue? Just because we know that they’ll both say something stupid? Maybe that’s it. Infotainment.
Glad to see the two preceding comments. Agree completely.
Label me unimpressed by giving Ms. Johnson any credence as an informed, educated commentator on this situation by virtue of her being a support Soldier in a convoy on unprepared Soldiers and being captured by the Iraqis.
Did Tom interview Jessica Lynch for her assessment of the Surge?

So Shoshana Johnson plays the Victim-Veteran-POW card using Jerry Springer-esque antics, and arrogantly, loudly exploits the fact that he didn't know her story.
His response should have been, "...and you were a cook whose unit screwed up royally...you have admitted that you didn't sign up to fight, but to cook. And now you want to play the 'I'm a POW, I got shot!' hero card."
Johnson mocks him without even intelligently veiling it: "You were a JAG officer and you don't know what it's like to be in combat."
Tom, watch some Band of Brothers if you want to see a portrayal of heroes who have earned the right to talk that way about REMFs.
Johnson should be taken off CNN's call list of experts and commentators, because even though the average viewer can be fooled by antics like that, anyone who thinks through soundbites for more than a minute can see through that kind of non-sense.
Love ya, Tom. But don't give people like that a platform. Sorry to add to your criticism this week, but I couldn't let that one slide.
