Why does North Korea remind me of Dick Cheney? I think it is because I wish that both would just go away, and also because the best way to deal them is to ignore them.

Here's a link to a guess on what Cheney is up to with his fear-mongering. I think trying to stave off the inevitable is a losing game. I would like everything to come out in a Truth & Reconciliation Commission. But if it doesn't, I think it will leak out over the years with a steady dribble of memoirs, lawsuits and incriminating documents surfacing. And there is a poetic justice in that sort of water torture.

Poetic Justice

Doubtful.

Re read the essential "Rise of the Vulcans" by James Mann.

Cheney cannot be ignored

Mr. Ricks,

I continue to disagree with you that a "Truth and Reconciliation" commission is needed, as we already know the truth because Cheney has already confessed, even bragged about it: Bush/Cheney approved - actively argued for the use of - waterboarding. That is, they approved torture. Period. Your comment that Cheney is best 'ignored' simply ignores the fact that there are very real crimes that cannot be ignored. Look at the actions taken by Spain, saying they are obligated under international law to pursue allegations of torture. The U.S. also has the same obligation, but I'm afraid Obama does not have the personal or political courage to live up to our obligations.
